Expectations from a Beard Trimmer

Every individual should have a beard trimmer in their grooming kit.  Think of a beard trimmer as your beard’s own personal stylist, always at the ready to tame wild flyaways and meticulously sculpt your facial hair into a masterpiece.  But with the vast array of trimmers on the market, how do you choose the perfect one?

Let’s navigate the key features that differentiate a good trimmer from a great one, ensuring you achieve that perfect beard every time.

Key considerations:

  • Adjustable lengths
  • Blade Quality
  • Attachments
  • Battery Life
  • Wet/Dry Trimming
  • Corded/Cordless Usability
  • Superior Build Quality
  • Travel Friendly
  • Maintenance

These are the basic considerations while purchasing a beard trimmer. A truly great beard trimmer checks most of these points. Prioritize the features that matter most to your grooming style.

What’s inside the box of Brio Beardscape V2?

When I received the box, it was beyond my expectations.  The box is made up of hard cardboard, with the imprints of the Brio Beardscape V2 features on the side of the box.

When you lift the top lid of the box, you will get a sponge sheet attached inside the top lid so that the product won’t get damaged during shipping or travelling.  Brio has taken care of every precious detail on the box.

Inside the box you will get the following things-

  • Brio Trimmer
  • Charging Stand/Base
  • USB Adapter
  • USB Charging Cord
  • Lubricating Oil
  • Cleaning Brush
  • 5 Reversible Guide Combs
  • Guide Book & Different Cutting Length Manual

Other things that you need to order separately to form a pro version of the Brio Beardscape V2 are-

  • Travelling Case
  • Zero-Blade (precision trimming)

If you are looking for a Brio Beardscape V2 pro version then in my opinion don’t order products separately. Brio is providing a bundle option for the pro version that consists of every item listed above, which will cost you less than ordering products separately.

Benefits of the Brio Beardscape V2

After using the product, based on my personal experiences I have listed a few benefits/pros of the Brio Beardscape V2-

Adjustable Length Setting

brio beardscape

The built-in adjustment lever on your trimmer offers four precise length settings- 1.0, 1.3, 1.6, and 1.9 mm- with a simple adjustment between 1 to 1.9 mm.  This versatility allows you to achieve a wide range of looks.  Whether you prefer a 5 o’clock shadow or a perfectly buzzed body hair, this trimmer has you covered without the need for additional snap-on guards.

To use the adjustment lever, ensure that you press the center lock button before sliding the lever up or down.  This will ensure smooth gliding and precise length selection.

Remember, it’s always a good idea to start with a longer setting and gradually move towards shorter lengths until you attain the desired result.  This will help prevent accidental trimming too short.

Type-C Charging

beardscape v2

The type-C charging port on your trimmer offers unparalleled convenience, empowering you to charge it seamlessly using various power sources.  Say goodbye to the hassle of carrying a dedicated charging cord or worrying about compatibility issues.  With the type-C port, you can effortlessly charge your trimmer using your wall adapter at home, your laptop during work, or even a portable power bank while on the go.  This versatility ensures that your trimmer remains powered up and ready to use whenever and wherever you need it.

Imagine you’re getting ready for an important meeting and realize your trimmer’s battery is running low.  Simply plug the type-C cable into your laptop and continue charging your trimmer while you work.  No more scrambling for a charging outlet or waiting impatiently for your trimmer to charge.

Battery Life

The Beardscape trimmer boasts an impressive battery life, setting it apart from many other trimmers on the market.  Its extra capacity Li-ion battery provides up to 4 hours of runtime on a single charge, taking approximately 3 hours to fully charge.  To ensure optimal battery performance, the Beardscape features a beep and automatic shut-off function when the battery reaches its full capacity.

Additionally, the trimmer can be conveniently used while plugged directly into the wall, making it an ideal solution even when the battery is low.  The display of Beardscape displays varying amounts of battery time remaining based on the selected speed setting.

The table below summarizes the battery life of a fully charged Beardscape at different speed settings-

RPM Time Remaining
5000240 Min
5500225 Min
6000210 Min
6500195 Min
7000180 Min

Few tips for maintaining optimal battery life-

  • Make sure you fully charge the Beardscape before using it. (Don’t charge after every use)
  • It is best to charge the battery when the capacity is less than 20% or when the battery meter has only a red bar showing up.
  • Don’t let your trimmer get too hot or too cold.

Corded/Cordless Usability

Whether you prefer the convenience of a corded trimmer or the freedom of a cordless one, the Beardscape Trimmer is designed to deliver the perfect trim every time.  While using it cordless is recommended, the Beardscape Trimmer also offers exceptional versatility.

If the trimmer runs low on battery during use, you can seamlessly transition to corded operation by connecting the charging plug directly to the bottom of the Beardscape.  This innovative design ensures that you can continue trimming without interruption, maintaining the same level of precision and control.

LED Display

brio trimmer

The LED display plays a crucial role in providing real-time information and enhancing the user experience.  While many renowned brands in the grooming industry, such as Philips, Wahl, and Andis, do not offer an LED display.  Beardscape stands out by incorporating this feature.  The LED display provides valuable insights into various aspects of the trimmer’s operation-

  • Does the trimmer require oiling? Every 60 minutes of operating time the Beardscape will signal that it is time to oil the blades by flashing the oil screen.
  • At what RPM trimmer is running? The Beardscape operates at a RPM range from 5,000-7,000 revolutions per minute.  Use the (-/+) button to change the speed settings.
  • How long trimmer will run? The time display shows the amount of cutting time remaining in the charge.  As the speed (RPM) is lowered, cutting time increases.
  • When to charge the trimmer? When only 20 minutes of time remain on the trimmer, the charging icon will flash and the Beardscape will make a beep tone, alerting you to fully charge the Beardscape after you use it.

Travel Lock

brio trimmer v2

Travelling with a trimmer can be a hassle, especially if it accidentally turns on in your bag due to unforeseen circumstances.  To prevent this, the trimmer comes equipped with a convenient travel lock feature.  The travel lock is designed to keep the trimmer from starting unintentionally while it’s in your luggage or carry-on bag.

To activate the travel lock, simply press and hold the power button of the trimmer for five seconds.  The trimmer will then enter travel lock mode, indicated by a lock screen.  To turn off travel mode, again hold the power button for 5 seconds. In this mode, the trimmer will not start, even if the power button is pressed accidentally.

Ceramic Blade

beardscape review

The low-friction ceramic blade employed in the trimmer is expertly from a single piece of ceramic, ensuring precision.  The flawless alignment of these ceramic blades with the titanium rake results in an exceptional cutting experience.  Together, they form the sharpest and lowest friction trimmer blade on the market.

Furthermore, the fine fingers located between the blades play a crucial role in enhancing the trimming process.  These fingers enable fewer passes and faster trimming.  With each pass, the trimmer effectively captures and cuts the hair,  reducing the need for multiple repetitions.

Extra Quiet

The Beardscape trimmer boasts an impressive array of features that contribute to its exceptionally quiet operation.  Its low-friction blade, meticulously crafted from premium materials, ensures smooth and effortless cutting action, minimizing the generation of noise.

The balanced spindle, precisely engineered for optimal performance, further reduces vibrations and enhances stability, resulting in quieter operation.  Moreover, the insulated motor, enclosed in a sound-absorbing housing, effectively dampens and absorbs any remaining noise, creating a virtually silent trimming experience.

Reversible Guide Combs

beardscape pro

This trimmer is equipped with 5 reversible guide combs, providing a wide range of trimming lengths to suit different styles and preferences.  The guide combs come with measurements of 1-2 mm, 3-6 mm, 4-5 mm, 9-12 mm, and 15-18 mm.  Each comb has two sides, allowing for easy reversal to achieve both left and right cutting.

The low-length guide combs (1-2 mm, 3-6 mm and 4-5 mm) are ideal for maintaining short beards, trimming body hair, and creating precise lines and details.  The high-length guide combs (9-12 mm and 15-18 mm) is suitable for trimming longer head hair, adding volume, and creating textured hairstyles.

Disadvantages of the Brio Beardscape V2

Every positive pole has a negative pole, and while having great benefits, this trimmer has a few disadvantages.   This can’t be a disadvantage for everyone but worth mentioning if any of you are looking for the mentioned below feature in your trimmer-

No Wet Trimming

Electric trimmers are convenient grooming tools, but they require proper care and handling to ensure optimal performance and longevity.  While the trimmer attachments can be washed, it’s important to note that the trimmer itself is not waterproof and should not be used in the shower or washed under running water.

Exposing the trimmer to moisture can have several adverse effects.  Firstly, water can seep into the trimmer’s internal components, causing corrosion or damage to the electrical parts.  This can lead to reduced performance or even complete failure of the trimmer. Secondly, water can interfere with the trimmer’s cutting mechanism, making it less effective at trimming hair.

Fewer Trimming Attachments

Many trimmers in the market come with various attachments and heads, like a precision detailer head for eyebrows and sideburns, a reciprocating head for details, edging and ears, and a rotary head for nose hair.  This particular trimmer doesn’t come with any of these accessories.

Customers Review

Customer reviews are an invaluable resource when making purchasing decisions, particularly for electronic products. They provide firsthand insights into the product’s performance, features, and overall user experience. In the case of the Brio Beardscape V2, customer reviews from two reputable sources paint a positive picture.

  • On the Brio website (USA), a substantial number of verified buyers have given the product a 4.6 out of 5 rating, with over 550 positive reviews. This indicates widespread customer satisfaction with the Brio Beardscape V2. The fact that each review comes from a verified buyer adds credibility, as it ensures that the feedback is genuine and not influenced by paid reviewers.

  • Similarly, on Amazon (USA), the Brio Beardscape V2 has received favorable reviews from a significant portion of its customers. With over 700 units sold in the past month, approximately 300 purchasers have shared positive experiences and awarded it a 4.5 out of 5 rating. This high average rating further solidifies the product’s overall quality and customer satisfaction.

The positive customer reviews from both the Brio website and Amazon suggest that the Brio Beardscape V2 is a well-received product among consumers. These reviews provide valuable insights into the product’s capabilities, ease of use, and overall user satisfaction. They serve as a reliable reference point for prospective buyers considering the purchase of the Brio Beardscape V2.

In my opinion, this product matches the minimum requirement of the reviews to buy electronic goods.

Differences between V2 & V1

The Brio Beardscape V2 is a great trimmer as same as V1, and has interchangeable blades and guards.  But there are a few upgradations that Brio has made to V2 are-

Travel Lock

In the initial version of the product, Beardscape V1, Brio did not include a travel lock which was a feature requested by many users.  This led to inconvenience for those who wanted to carry the device while travelling.

Recognizing the importance of this feature, Brio conducted extensive surveys, research and development, and analyzed customer feedback to address this issue.  After careful consideration and improvements, Brio introduced the travel lock in the subsequent version, Beardscape V2.

Type-C Charging

The introduction of the Type-C port in the Brio V2 is a game-changer for those who are always on the move.  With this feature, you can charge your trimmer anytime, anywhere.  No more worrying about forgetting your trimmer charger when travelling or dealing with the hassle of tangled cords and adapters.

Here are the benefits of having a Type-C port on your Brio Trimmers: Universal Compatibility, Fast charging, Compact and portability, and Convenience.

Improved Grip Elements

beardscape brio

One of the key differences between the two models is the addition of an attached rubber grip in the V2.  This seemingly simple feature makes a world of difference in terms of handling and control.

In the V1, the lack of a rubber grip posed a significant challenge.  The smooth, plastic surface of the trimmer made it prone to slipping from the user’s hand.  The Brio V2 addresses this issue by incorporating a sturdy rubber grip that wraps around the entire handle of the trimmer.  This grip provides a secure and comfortable hold, even when the trimmer is covered in hair.

Upgraded Display

The V2 display of the trimmer offers several noticeable improvements over the V1 display.  Firstly, it now displays the current length setting, ranging from 1.0 mm to 1.9 mm.  This allows users to easily see and adjust the desired length with greater precision.  In contrast, the V1 display lacked this feature, making it difficult to determine the current length setting.

Another significant enhancement in the V2 display is the addition of a color bar that indicates the remaining battery level.  The green color represents a battery level between 100%-80%, while the red color indicates a battery level below 20%.

Is it worth buying?

brio beardscape review

The Brio Beardscape V2 is definitely a winner when it comes to beard and hair trimmers.  You’ll get super precise cuts with its adjustable blade and fancy ceramic design, and the different combs let you tackle a whole range of styles.  Plus, the long battery life, easy USB-C charging, and travel lock make it a breeze to use at home or on the road.

That said, it does come with a higher price tag, so budget-minded folks might find equally good options for less.  It’s also not meant for shower-trimming and doesn’t have those extra attachments for nose hair or super small details.  So, if you’re all about that sharp look, awesome build quality, and easy-to-use features, the Brio Beardscape V2 is worth the splurge.

But, if the price is a major factor or those extra attachments are a must, then it might be best to check out some other options.

1. Is the Beardscape v2 waterproof?

The most important tip for your trimmer: keep it dry! The Beardscape has a powerful motor and battery, but this trimmer just doesn’t play well with water. So, no using it in the shower and no washing it under the water.

2. Is the Beardscape V1 or V2 the same?

The Beardscape V2 builds on everything awesome same as the original trimmer. You can still swap out blades and guards, but now you get some cool upgrades too. Think of a fancy new display and a travel lock so it doesn’t accidentally turn on in your bag.

3. What lengths does the Beardscape come in?

It’s got a built-in blade that adjusts tiny amounts for precision, and if you want a slightly longer beard, it comes with a bunch of clip-on with 1-2 mm, 3-6 mm, 4-5 mm, 9-12 mm, and 15-18 mm.

The Brio Beardscape V2 is a strong contender in the world of beard trimmers.  It’s a clear step up from the original, with smart features like the travel lock and upgraded display that shows a dedicated user experience.  The combination of a precise adjustable blade, long-lasting battery, and convenient USB-C charging creates a grooming tool that’s both powerful and portable.

However, if you absolutely need a waterproof trimmer or crave those specialized detail attachments, you might need to keep looking.  Ultimately, the decision comes down to your needs.  If precision, quality and on-the-go convenience top your list, the Brio Beardscape V2 is an excellent choice to elevate your grooming routine.
